In his first week as President of Portland State University, Dr. Wim Wiewel took time to meet with OBA business leaders to talk about his goals for his university and higher education in Oregon. OBA is organizing the business community to deliver a powerful voice of support for higher education in the 2009 Legislative Session. OBA executive committee member and Nike executive, Julia Brim-Edwards remarked, "We will fill the gap and support the governor as he continues to lead the re-investment in our colleges and universities."
On Wednesday, September 10th, the Oregon Business Association Board of Directors elected Mike Morgan to serve as its new Chair. Mike is the managing partner of the law firm Tonkon Torp and has served as Vice-Chair since September 2007. Mike's chairmanship follows that of Wade Mosby of The Collins Companies. "Serving as OBA Chair has been an exciting opportunity for me and I am pleased that Mike is going to be picking up the reins" said Mosby.
The OBA Board also elected as its new Vice-Chair Justin Delaney, Senior Vice President & Assistant General Counsel with The Standard. "Mike and Justin have both been longtime active members dedicated to building OBA into the state's premier business voice," said OBA President Ryan Deckert. "Their leadership will allow OBA to continue its mission of seeking bipartisan solutions that will help our state stay competitive in the global economy."
Mike takes over as OBA is gearing up for the 2008 Statesman Dinner. "This year's Statesman Dinner, featuring keynote speaker former U. S. Senator Lincoln Chafee, promises to highlight the need for Oregonians to move away from partisan politics and focus on the challenges and opportunities of the 2009 Legislative Session, said Morgan. As Chair I want to continue to strengthen OBA's leadership role as an advocate for collaborative solutions and long term economic prosperity. From higher education to diversifying our energy options, OBA will continue to lead in Oregon."
