LEADERSHIP - Best of Both Worlds

Oregon Business Association’s annual Statesman Dinner will be held on Monday, November 17, 2008 at the Oregon Convention Center in the Portland Ballroom.

This year’s dinner is expected to attract more than 1000 guests to this unique event bringing together business, political and civic leaders from across Oregon. Guests will participate in a “best of both worlds” celebration honoring Vera Katz and Lynn Lundquist, two great Oregon leaders from very different backgrounds.

This year’s national speaker is Senator Lincoln Chafee. Senator Chafee served as a Republican Senator from Rhode Island from 1999 until 2007 and is the author of a new book titled: AGAINST THE TIDE: How a Compliant Congress Empowered a Reckless President. In his book Senator Chafee addresses the void of sound public policy created by bipartisan extremism and sounds a wake-up call to his party, and to all Americans, by challenging our government to strive, as Abraham Lincoln once articulated, to “ elevate the condition of men”.

In honoring Vera Katz and Lynn Lundquist, OBA will recognize the “best of both worlds”, two great Oregonians who both served as Speaker of the Oregon House. Individually, as Mayor of Portland, Vera Katz represented the very best of urban leadership. As a Central Oregon rancher, legislator, retired president of OBA and current Crook County Commissioner, Lynn Lundquist continues to epitomize bi-partisan vision and leadership. Although Lynn and Vera are of different political parties, from different backgrounds, together they represent the very best of statesmanship for all of Oregon.

Previous Statesman Award recipients are Senator Gordon Smith and Senator Ron Wyden (2001), Governor Victor Atiyeh and Governor John Kitzhaber (2002), Jack McGowan (2003), Senator Mark Hatfield (2004), Governor Barbara Roberts and Norma Paulus (2005), Senator Margaret Carter and Dave Frohnmayer (2006), Senator Frank Morse and Ken Thrasher (2007).

The gathering of over 1000 business, political and civic leaders from across Oregon makes the OBA 2008 Statesman Dinner the must attend event of the year. Table sponsorships are available.
