OBA Members Head to the Capitol for 2009 Session

Election results are in and now those elected will take a leave from their jobs and wade through the many public policy issues facing Oregon.  We are fortunate to have the following private sector leaders lending their service to the state in these economic turbulent times.  And thank you to the following OBA companies for allowing their employees to represent their constituents in Salem.

Sen. Mark Hass - Cappelli Miles Advertising [spring]

Mark is the State Senator from District 14 representing parts of Washington County and Southwest Portland.  Previously, Mark served three terms in the Oregon House of Representatives from 2001 to 2007.

He is currently a member of the Senate Finance and Revenue Committee and the Senate Government and Education committee. In addition, he serves as Senate Democratic Whip.

When he’s not serving in the legislature, Mark works as a Brand Strategist for Cappelli Miles [spring], an advertising and brand identity firm with offices in Portland, Eugene and Denver.

Sen. Ginny Burdick - Gard Communications

Ginny was first elected to Senate District 18 in 1996.  Sen. Burdick was appointed Chair of the Senate Finance and Revenue Committee in 2008.

During the interim, she served on the Interim Committee on Legislative Counsel, the Interim Task Force on Comprehensive Revenue Restructuring, and the Interim Committee on Rules and Executive Appointments.

In her non-legislative career, Ginny is a communications consultant affiliated with Gard Communications and specializing in crisis communications.

Rep. Tobias Read - Nike

Rep. Chris Garrett - Perkins Coie

Chris is the newly elected representative for House District 38 which includes most of Lake Oswego and portions of southwestern Portland.  Chris served as a senior policy adviser to Oregon Senate President Peter Courtney and also worked in the office of Oregon State Senator Richard Devlin.

Rep. Chris Harker - Cayuse Software

Rep. Brent Barton - Perkins Coie

Brent will serve as a first term legislator representing House District 51.  Brent graduated from Harvard Law School and returned to Oregon in 2006.  He worked with community leaders around the state to build support for Governor Kulongoski's efforts to make new investments in schools and roads, more affordable health care, and a Rainy Day Fund.
