Blumenauer Seeks Input from OBA

Congressman Earl Blumenauer met with Oregon Business Association transportation and environmental stakeholders to discuss OBA efforts and the Congressman’s transportation vision.

Congressman Blumenauer is a national leader on smart growth and livable communities.  His congressional committee assignments include the Highways, Transit & Pipelines Subcommittee, Water Resources & Environment Subcommittee and the Railroad Subcommittee.

Blumenauer has been holding stakeholder meetings about transportation issues and wanted to meet with the OBA Climate Friendly Transportation working group to discuss state efforts and how they connect with his efforts in Congress.

Blumenauer pointed out that the American Society of Civil Engineers has graded the nation’s civil infrastructure a D- and estimated that a $1.6 trillion investment is needed over the next five years to bring the nation’s infrastructure to standard.

This is not just a problem of roads and bridges but also affects ports and transit.  The current Highway Trust Fund will not support current maintenance, much less future needs.

OBA Climate Friendly Trasportation workgroup, led by Ron Anderson, Senior VP at David Evans & Associates, will present it's recommendations to the Governor's Transportation Vision Sub-committee in early May.  The concepts being developed will answer the challenge of presenting a strong new investment in our transportation infastructure while considering Oregon's commitment to reducing greenhouse gases.
