A recent report released by the University of Washington and the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction reviews and analyzes survey results from math teachers at the schools in Washington State that have demonstrated strong or improving performance in mathematics.
We were interested to see that these teachers reported that having a strong community of support, opportunities for collaboration, and strong leadership are among the key factors that contribute to their success. Quality of instruction, of course, also topped the list, which makes us even more excited about the new Science and Math offerings that we've developed. Check out the blog entry for more information (and a link to the full report).
Recent reports by the Center for Teaching Quality have yielded some insights into the key factors behind reaching achievement goals:
"Preliminary results indicate that time, teacher empowerment, school leadership, professional development, and facilities & resources are critical to increasing student achievement and retaining teachers."
With retention becoming an increasing concern, these reports provide us with valuable insights into what its going to take to experience success - for teachers and students alike. Be sure to read our blog entry about the recent New York Times article exploring the nation's retention issues, and the key learnings from CTQ reports.
