OBA Hosts Legislative Leaders

In preparation for the 2008 special session, the OBA Board of Directors met with Senate President Peter Courtney and House Majority leader Dave Hunt.

Hosted by Nike, at the Tiger Woods Center, the gathering provided a unique opportunity for legislative leaders to meet directly with OBA Board members to discuss both the challenges and opportunities the upcoming session presents for Oregon’s business community.

Sen. Courtney highlighted a few of the key issues he believed would be taken up in 2008 and 2009. Short term issues included; restored funding of the Big Look Task Force, funding for State Police and the Environmental Enhancement Tax Credit (EETC) which OBA is spearheading. Several members of the Board took the opportunity to discuss the merits of the EETC and the benefits it would provide to Oregon’s environment and business community.

The long-term discussion turned towards strategic investments Oregon must make to complete in the global economy. Rep. Hunt was bullish on the legislature’s ability to tackle the big intractable issues facing Oregon.

OBA has been a real force in reducing the partisanship in the legislature,” remarked majority leader Dave Hunt. “We need OBA to continue to provide leadership on education, transportation and health care.”

Through the February special session and into the planning for 2009, OBA Board and staff will continue to advocate for real solutions to help create a strong economy and healthy environment for all of Oregon.

A public health emergency is matter of "When, not If".  Only weeks ago, coastal communities were reminded of this fact.

Whether its pandemic flu, aftermath of earthquake, tsunami, terrorism or flood, you should be aware of the public policies that may impact your ability to keep you and your employees safe and your business open.

Think of the issues that might affect the health of the state:

Oregon Health Forum would like you to strongly consider attending a critical conversation about preparedness, because we must not only count on our communities and our state to be prepared for an inevitable disaster, but also our neighbors and ourselves.
