Giving Children a voice on the Capitol Steps: the 2009 Presidents Day Rally

PRESIDENTS DAY RALLY TO PROTECT KIDS AND SCHOOLS

When:       Monday, Feb. 16th (Noon to 1 p.m.)

Where:     State Capitol Steps in Salem, Oregon

How: To learn more or to register on-line, visit www.stand.org/or/rally

OBA supports Stand for Children, an organization seeking to help all children get the excellent public education and strong support they need to thrive.  Stand for Children is organizing a Salem rally to make a difference in the lives of Oregon's children.  The rally, which will take place on the State Capitol Steps, is intended to encourage legislators to see and hear the voice of community members who call for the protection of kids, schools and educational programs, especially during these tough economic times.  By standing together—and BIGGER is BETTER—it is possible for legislators to stand up for our children and other vulnerable members of our communities.

PROTECT OUR KIDS AND SCHOOLS

Because education is a critical economic driver and we can’t afford to let our students lose ground, the rally will press for reasonable progress for schools in Oregon.  We need to recognize the array of serious needs in a recession economy.

INCREASE REVENUE

The rally will call for reasonable revenue increases and prudent use of reserves that enable the state to meet more of its human service commitments alongside investing in all levels of education (pre-K through college).
